Bracket Masters Racing
Team assisted Mr.
Lopiccolo's ninth grade Science class in the study of Acceleration,
Speed and Velocity. The students observed three different
vehicles making 40 meter, measured and timed runs over a short course
on the school campus. The students used stop watches to time the
runs and collected data from each run to calculated the various
parameters.
Mr. Lopiccolo has 5 science classes and each class was given a
chance to observe and collect data. Mr. Willie Beathley,
President of Bracket Masters Racing Team, Mr. Robert "Smooth"Garner, his son
Chris, and Coach Langley of Glen Oaks High School provided the cars.
Mr. Warren Birkett, President of Baton Rouge SMART Program, drove the
"Mr. Willie" El Camino. Chris drove the little street S-10
truck. Coach Langley decided to get in on the fun and went and
got his 2004, 40th Anniversary, Ford Mustang GT and made a few passes
for the students. Also on hand from Bracket Masters was Skip
Holbert and Marcus Bowie.
Mr. Kevin Stuart, Auto Tech instructor, was also present for the
event. Several teachers and the Principal, Mr. Wilbert August,
came by to observe the acceleration runs. ROTC students, shop
class students and some of the upper class Science students were
allowed to come and observe . There were over 500 students
present over the 7 hour event.
