Baton
Rouge Mayor Bobby Simpson
Visits Glen Oaks Auto Tech
February 26, 2003
Baton Rouge Mayor Bobby Simpson
visited the Glen Oaks Auto Tech Program. The original
invitation for this visit was given by Mr. Willie Beathley to the Mayor
during a Rotary Club Meeting in January. Members of the team and the
Auto Tech class were elated with the Mayor's acceptance of our
invitation. The Mayor arrived on time and stayed approximately
an hour. Everything went exactly as planned with the Mayor asking
questions and taking part in some of the demonstrations. Also in attendance: Superintendent
of Schools - Mr. Clayton Wilcox; Director of the Office of Career and
Technical Education (OCATE) - Mr. Ed Storey; Mrs. Henry, Principal of GOHS and
Mrs. Gipson - Assistant Principal, along with Area Automobile Education
and Auto Repair representatives.
Mr. Jason Heckert of South-West
Engine Exchange, who employees two of the students in the Auto Tech
program, was on hand to see the demonstrations.
Bracket Masters Racing Team had two
cars and 9 members on hand to greet the Mayor.
The young men in the Auto Tech
Program gave three demonstrations: Catalytic Converter Monitoring,
Battery Testing and Steering System assembly and repair. The young
men performed flawlessly, answering questions and demonstrating use of
advanced testing equipment used to troubleshoot today's modern
automobiles. We were all impressed! Congratulations to Mr.
Lyons and his Auto Tech students.
