Bracket
Masters Racing Team (BMRT) held their first meeting in January 1996. Johnny
Tate was the first president and he helped pick the original nine members.
Each person in that first group was Christian men who just happen to be
racers. To this day, the team starts and ends each meeting with a prayer.
Currently
the team has over 30 members; including honorary members. Each member has
one vote in team matters. When a person is accepted as a member, their
whole family is welcome at all meetings and events. Honorary members are
invited to attend all meetings, but do not have a vote.
Drag Racing
is the primary activity of Bracket Masters, but we are very proud of our
involvement with the Baton Rouge community and especially the school
system. Team members volunteer time in local schools and we are invited to
several Career Day activities each year. The team is the authorized NHRA
Youth Education Services (YES) program representative in this area.
Each year
in April, the team puts on a car show at Glen Oaks High School for the
students. We have given several car shows at local churches.
The Team
has worked with the local Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, the Cub
Scouts, many area churches and Holiday Helpers who help feed the less
fortunate at Thanksgiving.
The team has traveled to race
tracks as far away as Budds Creek Maryland, St. Louis, MO, Dallas, TX and
many of the tracks in Tenn., Miss., Alabama and Florida. When the team
makes a trip, it is a family affair.
