Houston's Camaro was the quickest and fastest car in the club.
He progressed from mid 10's to mid 7's using a NOx system. He
removed the nitrous system and slowed the car into the low 8 second
range. The present version of the car was built in 1999 and hit the track in
2000. During the past 7 years, the car has changed many parts,
engines and paint jobs. Houston was a very competitive driver and
almost always went some rounds. Houston has gone into
semi-retirement for the present time, but is looking to get back into drag
racing with a street car for his wife Marva in the near future (March
2007).
Houston's car, "The TAZ", was legal to compete in
Super Pro, Super Gas or Super Comp. Houston found a notch in the 5.30
sec. class of the Baby Pro Mod races, sponsored by Edmond Hall of
Montgomery, AL. Houston won this class a number of times and always
finished in the top four.
Houston's engine was a 572 Cu. inch. BBC. Times for the car were in the
high 8.20 second range in the quarter mile.
The car appeared at the UBDRA "Black Sunday"
races at
Gateway International, and the Memphis Racers Association's "Super
Sunday" at Memphis Motorsports park. Houston has run as far
north as, Budds Creek, MD at Maryland International Dragway. He has
run at the "Louisiana Drag
Classic" in Baton Rouge, LA. The car has competed in, and won,
match races at Hub City Dragway in Hattiesburg, MS.
Houston is a native of Churchpoint, LA. Houston now makes his home in Baker, LA. Houston is a
Charter Member of Bracket Masters Racing Team.
Houston and Marva were engaged on 11/20/01. The wedding and reception
took
place December 15,
2001, at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center, Nicholson Dr. Baton Rouge,
LA. During
the wedding ceremony, it was very fitting that the pastor, Rev. Melissa
Dunn read from 1 Corinthians 13, as the new couple stood
before the gathering of friends and relatives. The ceremony was
beautiful.

Houston rolled
in the Krewe of Maringouin Mardi Gras Parade and was awarded the 2nd Place
Trophy for the Race Car Division. Congratulations Houston!
Houston was
elected by unanimous vote to become President of Bracket Masters Racing
Team, October 19, 2002.
After
serving as President for the year 2003, Houston decided not to run for office
again. He was elected vice-President at the annual
election meeting, held October 12, 2003. During the election of
2004, Houston stepped down as Vice President.
In October 2006, Houston decided to give up
his membership and has become an honorary member of
Bracket Masters Racing Team.
During
the presidency of Houston, the team made many advances and Houston was responsible
for the most successful Louisiana Drag Classic that has ever been
held. While under Houston's leadership, the team has made many
advances in membership, prosperity and community relations. We
started a partnership with Glen Oaks High School Auto Tech Program, and a
new organization was formed to help administer to the needs of that
program. We have formed relationships with the East Baton Rouge
School Board, the Constables office, the Holiday Helpers charitable
organization and other groups in the city and Parrish. During the
year 2003, many great things happened within our team to forge new
relationships and show the community that Bracket Masters is not just
about racing, but we also contribute to our community. Thanks go out
to Houston & Marva Hawkins for their year of leadership.
