The Baton Rouge SMART Program, Inc. is coordinating monetary donations to help Hurricane Katrina evacuees children that will be entering school over the next few weeks. Children that were displaced by the hurricane are being accepted at all area schools. The money collected will be used to buy school uniforms, shoes and school supplies for the children. We would like to outfit 100 students with two complete sets of uniforms and one pair of tennis shoes.  We estimate it will cost $100 per child.  Each schools Student Liaison will accompany the kids and parents as they purchase the uniforms with the money provided.  Other uses for the money will be school supplies and student ID cards, which the students must purchase.

Baton Rouge SMART Program, Inc. and Bracket Masters Racing Team, Inc. have contributed $3000.00 to this effort so far.

Sept. 12, 2005 - Baton Rouge SMART Program distributed checks to three area high schools. Checks were presented to the principals at Capital High, Glen Oaks High and McKinley High schools.

Sept. 22, 2005 - Baton Rouge SMART Program paid lab fees for all evacuee students entering Glen Oaks High School ROTC Program from money contributed by supporters of the Katrina Relief Fund.

Quartermasters Racing Team of Clinton, MD provided assistance to Wallace and Debra Johnson of the New Orleans Racing Team, and they made a generous donation to the Baton Rouge SMART Relief Fund.

Another drag racing organization, United Black Drag Racers Association of Milwaukee, WI, along with racers from the Chicago, IL area, have collected a large amount of non-perishable supplies, water and clothing for the evacuees. They delivered their supplies to the New Orleans area.

Glend McDonald's Motorcycle Club, the "Nubian Kruzers", has donated $200.00 to Glen Oaks High School to help.  There are several members of their club that have taken in evacuee's.  Sunday, 9/4/05, the Kruzers are having a big Bar-B-Que for approximately 30 evacuees that are living with the members.
On Sat., 9/3/05, eleven members of the Kruzers volunteered time at Bethany World Prayer Center in Baton Rouge to unload trucks with supplies.  Bethany has opened a very large evacuee center at their church.
